Ground Beef in Crock Pot

This weekend our family hosted the final stop of the Organic Valley Generation Organic Bus Tour. The gang toured our farm, ate some homemade food, then crashed at our place. It was a lot of fun!

To prepare for the crowd, I borrowed a secret I learned from Leah at Beyer Beware. You can brown ground beef in the crock pot. This is a perfect way to brown up a ton of burger very painlessly.

Here is how you do it.

Place your frozen ground beef packages in the crock pot. I did eight pounds.

Add your seasonings.  I was making taco meat so I just quadrupled my taco seasoning recipe.

Set your crock pot to high and walk away. Every two hours or so come back, break up the meat and check of doneness. It took me about six hours.

Of course this is not a “quick” recipe, but if you think about it, it is a great way to get a whole bunch of meat cooked at one time. We had leftovers, so I just frozen them in 2.5 cup servings. Next time I need a meal STAT, I just need to pop the meat in the microwave and I am set.

Thank you again to the Organic Valley Generation Organic Bus Tour for stopping by. We had a great time!
