Zweber Farms Hens are laying Eggs Again

FINALLY!

Egg sales have been kind of crazy as of late. Between avian influenza scares, hens being in their “off” season, and a high demand for affordable protein, eggs have been very popular. I hope everyone has Ariana Grande singing “You are going to be popular” in their heads now. I sure do. Darn earworms.

Any who, eggs are popular. Luckily, our youngest group of hens are starting to lay eggs. We are getting more and more eggs each day. A couple of days last week we even had eggs, unclaimed, in our store fridge. As we creep closer to Easter, those days of being oversupplied quickly vanished. I do see the supply and demand evening out once the holiday is over. It is still a good idea to get on our waitlist for eggs for now, but you might also luck out and find some in our on Thursdays and our monthly Saturday open house.

Speaking of, this Saturday, April 12th, we will be open from 11am-2pm. Stop on by to purchase grass fed beef, pasture raised chickens, nonGMO fed pork and maybe some eggs. Hannah will be giving free tours.

We are going to be open four times from now until Easter:
*Thursday, April 10 form 4-7pm
*Saturday, April 12th from 11am-2pm
*TUESDAY, April 15 from 4-7pm
*Thursday, April 17th from 4-7pm

We are going to add additional weekday hours on TUESDAY, April 15th from 4-7pm. If you are still not able to make those times work, give us a call or send us an email to set up a private appointment. We are happy to accommodate you.

Farm and family Updates:

Tim and his climbing partner, Sam, made it to the top of Mount Whitney and back down safely! For a few days it seemed like there might be too much avalanche danger, but the weather turned out to be perfect. Mount Whitney is the tallest peak in the lower 48 states. Tim and Sam took the mountaineers route that required ice axes and crampons. Tim had a great time and is already talking about the next mountain.

Castle Company Theater’s production of Finding NemoJr was FANTASTIC! All the young actors did a great job singing and dancing. Hannah was a Moonfish and sang in the voice ensemble. We got to sneak away from the farm one evening to enjoy the show as a family.

Jonnie made his Catholic Confirmation this month as well. It is such a blessing to have children who are strong in their faith. Jonnie choose Saint Bernard to be his patron Saint. Saint Bernard is the patron Saint of mountaineers, rock climbers, and skiers/snowboarders. Most people know the Saint by the dog named after him. Decades ago, my grandfather painted the ceiling of the Saint Paul Cathedral during its 1970’s restoration. It is inspiring to look up at the rich frescos and imagine the group of Italian immigrants who spent months making the Cathedral beautiful.

We are grateful to our four young employees who help out extra when we have major family events such as these. We couldn’t farm and be a family without them. Your support, as a customer, helps us hire great young adults in our area. We are truly blessed.

Now is just a waiting period until the cows go out on pasture. Thankfully, with all the snow and rain we received at the end of last month, our county is no longer in drought status. The moisture should make the grass grow fast. We just need some sunshine and a little more heat.
